Is There a Standard Way to Mount Speaker?
What is the standard way to attach a speaker to a hole? I've been using short wood screws from the back, with rubber faucet washers between them and the speaker metal to prevent marring.
Relax. It's SUPPOSED to smoke a little.

Nut and bolt is the preferred method recommended by the manufacturers. Rubber washers are good to reduce over tightening as well.

Seems weird, using stuff from the plumbing aisle.

Place four 10-32 T-nuts mounted on the fascia of the speaker baffle.
Attach speaker gasket to front of speaker frame.
Place speaker from back of baffle, careful to align mounting holes in speaker frame with the hole-thru's to the pre-installed T-nuts.
Attach speaker to baffle using 1 1/4" 10-32 bolts, securing to the T-nuts ..... carefully tightening from opposite sides and alternating tightening, a little at a time, so as to not warp the speaker frame (similar to bolting tire rim to car).

Is there any advantage to using stainless nuts? Machined better, less apt to cross thread?
Re: Is There a Standard Way to Mount Speaker?
Stainless on stainless can gaul up easier than other metals. But it looks nice.

Front of baffle mount if the speaker frame will allow it. Much better.

Remember, good 'n' tight is too tight for a speaker and you'll end up warping the frame. Tighten it down evenly on each of the 4 bolts and not too tight. Use T-nuts.

I'll bet I am not the only one that has damaged a speaker while trying to mount the driver from the rear onto the bolts......
Front mounting has it's critics but it prevents the type of injury that my $150 speaker suffered.

Yeah, I poked a hole in a surround once, but only once. Course, not an issue with t-nuts. For me, front loading is a show stopper.Structo wrote:I'll bet I am not the only one that has damaged a speaker while trying to mount the driver from the rear onto the bolts......![]()
