Hey guys!!
I think the moment of truth is coming for me to start my express build.
I would like to ask a question for experienced express builders. I have RJ express boards with turrets. Does it make a diference to solder wire and components to the top of the turret or do I have to do components to the top and wire under the board? If it makes a diference what are the reasons to do it one way or the other? I ask this question because I've read that the lead dress is the most critical part here but it would be a lot easier to do changes having everything on top instead of unscrewing the board..thanks for your answers!!

Wire the B+ wires to the plate resistors under the board, and put the signal wires in the top of the turret. Makes it easier...
just look around at some of the builds pics and you'll see all you need to see..

Its a toss up I like to wrap my resistors and capacitor around the turrets leaving the top of the turret for my wires. But either way is ok and I do not wire mine the Marshall style with wires coming from under the board.

Re: Question before I start my express....
There is an interesting (well sorta) post on the Dumble forum right now that talks about how Howard Alexander Dumble actually clamps each component into place with a secure physical connection before he solders it.
I'm curious if it makes a difference since it makes it a royal pain to remove or replace a part later.
It seems you should be able to read some difference in resistance, capacitance, or inductance across the connection if indeed it really matters.

Thanks for the opinions guys, it seems that people do it their own way, I ask because everyone agrees that in the express circuit the lead dress really matters. I see in the Francesca pics that Ken goes with components on top and some cables under the board but also he uses flea clips and not turrets.
I would like the opinion of someone that has get close to a real express.
I agree with RJ that making a physical connection before soldering could be a pain if you want to tweak the amp later but also depends in the soldering technique, how much solder you use on the joints.
Keep the opinions coming guys!!!

It's not as easy as it used to be to read all previous posts, duh. However, if you have questions, would highly recommend doing some searches and you might hit on something that current posters have even forgotten.
This one from a guy ('67_Plexi) who's serviced Trainwrecks:

BTW, the search function default is "or". If you are looking for a post that has express info on bias, need to type "express and bias", and not just "express bias". The later will give you all threads with either express -or- bias.

Another good way to search this type of forum software is to used the Advanced Search function at Google.
Go to the Google home page, choose Advanced Search at the left of the box and copy and paste Amp Garge URL, (the address in the bar at the top of the page) into the "Search within a site or domain:" box.
Enter http://ampgarage.com/
Then add the key words in the top line that says, "all these words:"
You can select how many results you want on each page, I choose 20.
This is what the Advanced Search page looks like.

And the results from using Express Bias as the key words:
http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&as_q ... =&safe=off
