Joining the Club

Post by Gargoyle »

After stumbling across Glen's brilliant youtube examples, I have caught the bug.
I have spent the last month or so reading many posts, particularly from Glen,Dana, Ritchie, MFowler et al. What a wealth of information.

I have decided to go with Nik's Expression (have the Dizzy 30 )as a platform with the following mods (after using the search function extensively).

1. Transformers from TS to be fitted locally (maybe by myself)
2. External Bias
3. Sozo caps as Nik doesn't have the mallorys
4. Dana's VVR again fitted locally.
5. Was toying with idea of switchable primary's to alternate between 5k2 and 6k6. (probably use 6v6's initially)
6. I have access to some fantastic timber downunder, so I am gonna make the head cab myself.

I am basically a Blues, Classic Rock, Hard Rock type player and with many other players using Marshall, Mesa and to a lesser extent, Orange. I thought the Express type amp would be just the ticket to give a different slant on the music that I play.

Guys, I am very new to this whole Express thing so I am hoping I am on the right track. Any advice would be very welcome.
Cheers

You can get a set of the correct PVC signal caps from allynmey in the For Sale section right now, and I'd recommend them.

The ideal output transformer for this amp is either the Toneslut Vintage-spec OT or the Pacific OT. Both of these are 6K6 only so you won't be able to switch between primaries. I wouldn't worry about it though as the 6K6 is definitely the tap to be on unless you want it even more aggressive than it already is.

Paulster, cheers mate.

I might look into the caps and see if I can't shoot em over to nik to put in for me.
Good call on the OT.....

Maybe you should get ahold of Mark Huss in downunder and see if he can build you an Express rather than Ceriatone, using the right parts. :)
