Rocket w/ Reverb

Post by angelodp »

Curious if any have done a reverb circuit on the Rocket amps. Plenty of real estate.

IMHO, the Rocket circuit LOVES reverb!

Yup! Great platform for reverb. Norm's reverb circuit is cool too. It's a slick adaptation that works well.

dartanion - Are you saying you built an amp using Norm's layout - or are you saying you heard Norm's amp in person? Or for that matter, are you refering to the posted sound clips?
Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

Always so nice to see your work Normster. Is this the Cadet prototype?

I copied Norm's circuit.. yes I'm a thief. It's in a Bassman chassis with the original OT.

The reverb is a simple single tube reverb, very effective and the Rocket with EL-34's sounds great.

I asked Normster for his help/info a short while back regarding his amp and he provided it. Very nice person and was willing to share and help.

I haven't built his amp yet but I fully intend to I will built it into a Fender slant style chassis 1-12 combo using Celestion G12-100, 4 ohm speaker.

Norm is a good friend, and I have heard/played through a number of his builds. The Space Cadet is a very cool amp, hence the interest in his reverb circuit. He did provide me his layout, however I don't build anything exactly as others would. My build style and goals with specific amps are a bit different, so I do things my way. Norm was a big help though in fine tuning the reverb circuit and coming up with the idea. He get's full credit for that.

With that said, adding reverb to the Rocket is a cool addition and sounds great. It's not the same feeling as the standard Fender reverb, so be aware of that.

I always thought the old Gibson reverb was better than the Fender reverb has anyone gone that route?

Haven't tried the Gibson reverb yet, but they are interesting and sound great. Norm's circuit is pretty similar although it's not using a 6C4 driver or half 6EU7 recovery, but a standard half 12A_7 tube for both. I have been tossing around the idea of doing a power pentode/beam tetrode driver for fun. It'll get more into the outboard reverb tone.

No schematic (I never use them). Here's the layout for the 4xEL84 version. Ange, yes this was the Space Cadet proto.

It just pads the reverb when playing at high volume. One of the downsides of returning the reverb to the bottom of the PI is that as amp volume increases, it has a dramatic effect on the intensity of the reverb. The switch is kind of a bedroom/gig reverb selector to help compensate.
