Diodes Vs Resitor

Post by gearhead »

Am thinking about using a resistor at the outputs instead of the diodes on the tubes for protection.

Are you effectively running a resistor as a parallel load to the speaker output, just in case you forget to plug one in? Effectively a beefy resistor to ground? I recall something around 100-300 ohms. Is there any prob with running a 1k instead? I have a number of those Xicon 5W ones.

FWIW, a 50 watt Traynor amp I have here uses 180R/10W across the output for protection. It will protect from having a load plugged in with a bad speaker cord, but because of the shorting speaker jack it won't protect me from my own stupidity as is.
