Airbrake & EL-84's

Post by angelodp »

when using a single 16 ohm cabinet I recommend setting the impedance selector to 8 ohms when using the first two levels of attenuation. We also make this recommendation for any amp using EL-84 type output tubes. The reason for this is simple; when used this way, this will result
in a reduction of the current flowing through the output tubes at FULL POWER. KF

Question is what to do for the next click on the selector and then the Rheostat. Should the selector on the amp then be changed to 16ohms??

This should help:

Thank you Mr. Randall Aiken for producing the graph.

Heres some comments I recieved via e-mail from a DR-Z rep

"You can run it safely at 4, 8, or 16 ohms. Running an 8 ohm speaker out with a 16 ohm cab
will allow the amp to operate cooler. You will lose some low end though. If running an 8 ohm cab
always use the 8 ohm speaker out with any amp. You can play around with using the 8 or 16
speaker out when using a 16 ohm cab. Let your ears be the judge...the Airbrake isn't fussy."

This answers my questions.......I don't have a 100w amp, but if I did I would follow Kens suggestion.....
Hope this info is helpful to the forum.........
