Asteroid Layout Oddness

Post by bnwitt »

You know it was quite some time ago that I did the Asteroid amplifier layout and I was going over it today and noticed something really odd. The Bias test jacks are numbered V1 and V2. Thinking this was my mistake I went to the website of the original amp and found the same thing. Now no matter which end of the amp you start with numbering tubes, (left or right) there is no way the power tubes are V1 and V2. The typical numbering system which starts with the first preamp tube would make the the power tubes V4 and V5 (which is shown on the hand drawn schematic) and if you start from the right end of the amp (looking from the rear) they would be V2 and V3 after the rectifier. I am changing my layout to V4 and V5. For any future anal retentive cloners out there, I don't think this will affect the tone.
