12AV6,35W4, and 50C5... Low watt phono amp
I picked up a small hand made phono/guitar/mic amp. It has 12AV6,35W4, and 50C5...tubes in it. It had no power as a guitar amp but moderate power as a phono amp. It's a combo with a 5 or six inch speaker. Can I turn this thing into a gainy little guitar amp ? Anyone ever max one of these out. I'm new at this... see ANOTHER GUY post. If anyone has a plan for these gts ... could you pass them along ? Thanks.... Carlin
Phono Amp
Carlin,
I see that the 12AV6 7 pin tube has amplication factor of 100 and has the same curve information as the 12ax7 per my tube manual so that is all good.
The 35W4 is a half wave rectifier that has a tapped heater for panel lamp operation connecting to pins 4 and 6.
The 50C5 is a beam power amplifier for audio output stages and states it has relatively high power output at low B supply voltage but says it only has 2.3 watts class A operation single tube? High power? Says to refer to 6cu5 for curve information.
Quite a small amp so run the output into the input of a bigger guitar amp (daisy chain) and see what it does for gain or distortion. I used to run a Fender Champ into my other amps on some venues in the 70s not the best sound, but we didn't have much then and no other guys to ask questions to. I should have just stuck with the Standel Stack on 10 or my Plush 100 with 3 15inch speaker stack stuffed in blue metallic, instead.
