Bias Trimmer Pot / Express

Post by rawnster »

I'm having the darnest time collecting all the parts for an Express build. Case in point, none of the normal electronic supplies (mouser, allied, etc...) carry the Bourns 3329H-1-253LF trimpot. I selected the Bourns pot because it was listed in the Express BOM in the files section. They are all on back order. I'd have to wait till November. I hate waiting. :-) Anyway, I found a 25k/.5W NTE 500-0081 trimpot at a local electronic supply house.

Here's a link to it's specs.

What do you think? Will it suffice? Or, does anyone have an extra trimpot they'd be willing to sell?

Thanks for all your help. I am new to amp building/yet stoked to get started.

You could always do it the ol' fashioned way and use fixed resistors.

An adjustable bias pot is nice but not necessary.

Zippy, thanks for the advice. I do like the flexibility an adjustable bias pot offers. Also, since I'm learning and such, I'd like to build this amp pretty close to its earlier predecessor.

Just a suggestion to get you through to firing up your build while you wait for the pot...

Here's how it was done in the good ol' days. ;)

I put the Bourns trimmer on there because the form factor was nice (horizontal instead of vertical).

The Phier that Dana uses is every bit as good, and perhaps more robust than the unit spec'd.

A lot of this is really a matter of taste and opinion. I was just looking for something that worked.... YMMV
