voltage changing

Post by castor »

Hi, I'm thinking about any change in the main voltage of an amp like the express... if you change the supply voltage of the whole amp (like changing the voltage of the PT) what will you have?
For example if I lower the voltage of 100 V (DC voltage), keeping the same voltage feed ratio in the amp (so without changing the supply values - caps and resistors) at the end I'll have a lower output power or something different in sound? Is this strictly related to the bias of the amp?
I think to remember that I read for instance that increasing the voltage in the PA tubes you will lose some dynamics of the amp..
what's your opinion/experience?

I use the lower voltage HT taps on the Toneslut PT in my build since I am using 6v6s. It resulted in predictably lower voltages throughout the PS. I have about 350v on the plates of the 6v6s which are cathode biased at ~10-11watts. Similar to a Tweed Deluxe output I think. My guess would be that EL34’s might not sound good at such low voltages?
If it says "Vintage" on it, -it isn't.
