Tubes.....

Post by tsl602000 »

I have a Ceriatone Express kit that I built and was never happy with. I changed the preamp to a Komet and it turned into a very good amp.

Last week I found a box that I got from a friend years ago containing a bunch of old preamp tubes. I checked it out and was shocked to see Siemens, Philips, Sylvania, RCA and a Mullard.
I decided to check out the tubes. The sound I got with a Philips in V1, Mullard in V2 and a Siemens in V3 was incredible. I've never heard an amp that sounded so good.

Basically what I'm saying is that tubes can completely change your amp. I was never a believer regarding expensive NOS tubes, but if you want the best from your wreck, invest in some good NOS tubes. The difference is amazing.

yep very true.. its also good to get a good combination to work together for V1 and v2.. I know i.ve gone though 30 or 40 tubes sometimes to find one exceptional sounding tube. Some amps the tubes make a much more effect on the tone and sound than in other amps.
