Proper Francesca Board Layouts

Post by mchauck »

Hi. Sorry for the newb question but....are the board layouts labeled Wreck2K4's chassis layout (I think these are Mark Abbotts) the proper board layouts for a Francesca? I am going to make my own boards and I want to get it right the first time as material is pricey. Are the values correct. If not, where should I look?

Thanks

Brian.

PS Does anyone have some good used iron I can purchase?

At the risk of being called a heretic, I'm having some difficulty imagining that a bit of variation will make much discernible difference in performance or tone. IMO, if you get close with the layout, that should be more than adequate.

For reasonably priced new transformers, you might look at Edcor. You can find them on line and IIRC they have a 6k6 PP tranny http://www.edcorusa.com/products/transf ... -6_6k.html that should work. Whether it's got the "original" tone, that's another question.

They advertise that other designs are on file, so call about a PT.

Just a thought if you are trying to save a few dollars on the iron. We all make choices. Different isn't necessarily bad.

I fully understand the need to save money where you can. Consider, though, that the MOST important tone components in any amp are the transformers.

Other parts are much easier to upgrade later.

I want used GOOD proper iron. I won't cheap out on the materials. Does Mercury Magnetics make a set for the Wreck? They are down the street from me and I can save a bit on them.

BTW...any more board comments?

The layouts mentioned are accurate. You can easily cross-check against the exhaustive pictures of Francesca in the "Files" section.

I have a hard time thinking Mercury Magnetics prices will be lower than Moose's $165 for the set. Aren't they one of the more expensive suppliers? Good iron, to be sure. Not cheaper than anyone I've seen.

You may have a shot at used. Good luck! :D

mercury does not have them. you can get them from pacific transformer or from moose (made by heyboer) at toneslut.com. i posted the pacific part numbers here a couple yrs ago and of course moose is a member here.

Preamp Drill Template

Post by gearhead »

This is one for the preamp board I made bylooking at the pics and knowing the size/spacing of the holes. They are .265 in apart, with a diameter of .092 in. Disclaimer: I haven't actually used it yet.

Compared it to one of UR12s boards before I stuffed and soldered it (UR12 board). Will be using it in the near future.

I agree with Rhinson. You can't go wrong with Mooses trannys.. You have options with Moose's dual primarys on his OTs and his Power trannys are rock solid. There have been many outstanding amps built with Moose's trannys. I also agree that the board layouts are acurate. Good luck with your build.

And the power board. Didn't put drill holes for the standoffs because you got to fit them around the trannies installed. Measure and drill to taste ;)
