I am preparing my Express build.
Pots are Clarostat
Resistors are mainly Xicon CF 1W, apart from some RN65 at some sensitive places.
Signal caps are Mallory OD.
Power caps are Mallory

OTOH, I finished my 6V6Plexi were I used Alpha pots (volume not going to zero  ), RN65 all around except at the Pi plate CC. Signal caps are Mustard all around and JJcap cans.

I like PEC pots better than the Clarostats. Xicon 1W CF, and Mallory PVCs.

Alpha on the current build
Almost all Vishay RN-65D resistors
All PSS orange drops
Filter caps are 47s xicon and 22s Nichicon
Dropping resistors are Vishay Metal Oxide
Screens are wirewound.

When I do the real express build I'll use PEC or Clarostat with the full Mallory set I got from Allyn.

Does anybody know why KF used 5 watt grid stoppers??

I like PEC pots too; the PECs are smoother than Clarostats and have found a good source for them in Log/Audio.

And of course the Mallory PVC for most signal caps and Mallory TC for power filter caps.

Hi BBQLS1:

Chassis from Allyn (cannot be better)
Some other parts from Allyn (boards, signal caps...)
Power caps from Alliedelec
Clarostat pots (AUDIO+ Lin) from Westlabs
Trannies from ToneSlut
Other parts on hand or from Mouser
Inspiration from Ampgarage.com

Also get my signal caps from Allied; those are big orange .1 uF, .022uF, and .0022uF caps. Made by Cornel Dubilier (PVC601, PVC6122, PVC6222).

fredaxis I doubt that the fact that the volume on your 6V6plexi doesn't go out completely has anything to do with the pots... I could be wrong though, have you rechecked your grounds?

Thanks for the answer Riscado,
I do not want to hijack this thread, but we are at least 3 having the "not going to Zero pots syndrom" on 6V6Plexi...
And it is not the pots as I changed them and still have the problem.

if you mean the 1k/5w screen grid resistors, it's because el34's screens draw a lot more current than other types of common power tubes we use--it's the typical size you see on marshall's, etc. the grid stoppers are the 1.5k on pins 5----in the pics they look like standard 1/2 watters to me. rh

Hey RH. It was a misspoke. On one of the layouts around here some wag has put 5 watt grid stoppers on the liverpool schematic. I've double checked with Francesca and other pictures and they are 1/2 watt.
Thanks

That mistake traces back to the original Ceriatone Express layout. Haven't seen the Liverpool one you're talking about?
