rocket filtering/ac30 filtering

I'm wondering why the rocket uses so much filtering, since it's (functionally wise) the main difference I can find to an ac30... Well along with the fact that the preamp probably sees a slightly higher voltages.

Also what would you think of using the "unused" 12ax7 triode to had the (only a volume control) channel of an ac30? Any beneficts versatility wise?
