Anyone have Rocket MP3's

Post by PeteRH »

While going though some old emails (Aug 2004) I noticed that someone posted a link to a few MP3's featuring a Rocket (Amanda) on "The Gear Page."

Did anyone download these and if so can they post them on this site? I would love to hear a real Rocket.

Thanks and regards
Pete

If you can find a copy of the Christian rock band Novella from the 80's
you can hear a Rocket in action.
Used record stores are a good start.

I was in Mesa Arizona last year and spent quite a few hours every week or so in Bookmans. I think I missed my only chance to find a Novella album.....as finding a used album here in Australia is quite unlikely.

We've got lots of Christian bands here but unfortunately we are not blessed with any Trainwrecks.

Dear Pete

I don't recall if I downloaded the MP-3 of our former member's (Rocket) Trainwreck Rocket. Again, I will have a look and get back to you.

I think it would be an easy amp to clone as the prototype that I made had many of the qualities of the Trainwreck Rocket. Mind you, perhaps it was all dumb luck.
Yours Sincerely

Mark,

I notice that the schematic for the Rocket you posted differs from the layout in a couple of areas, which values did you end up with? I also discussed the power supply with Ken Fischer, and he said that his personal Rocket uses 80uf on the first stage, and basically the liverpool power supply even with the 5AR4, so it is VERY important that the plate voltages on the output tubes be under 315vdc so as not to fry rectifier tubes. FWIW.

Dear Funk

There are two different circuits posted up. The first circuit was drawn from a thread on the old Twreck page. Apparently this was derived from a Two Rock Rocket clone. It was basically and AC-30 with some component value changes.

The other circuit which was drived from discussion with people in the know, the Mill Hill Rocket clone, and the Callaham Rocket-ish clone. It is basically an AC-30 with a Trainwreck power supply.

The layout reflects the latter circuit which I think is the real deal. The voltage from the valve rectifier is in that 300VDC area.

The result I got from my crude prototype were promising. I did have issues with some noise which was due to the P.I. picking up noise due to the large value of the treble and bass pots (one meg.)
I should point out that there wasn't any form of chassis, I did try shielded cable but I recall that didn't help too much.

I hope that offers some clarity to my efforts.
Yours Sincerely

Hey Guys - this is the album that KF made me a copy of about two years ago. Song number one is a Rocket and Ken's personal telecaster w/ Lindy Fralin PU's... "The rest of the album is a stock '80's ESP strat and a stock '80's Gibson Les Paul. No boost, distortion or any boxes or effects are used anywhere. Guitar straight into amp, 4x12 pre Rola 30's. " Ken continued, later, "an Express and a Liverpool make up the bulk of the record except for song 1 and 10." "Song 10 has a Plexi 50 blended in on some of the rhythm work."

I take this to mean that track one is the only one that features the Rocket.

Anyhow, now I know the actual name of the album; Ken didnt identify who it was, just saying it was an obscure Christian rock band and it was out of print.
It's a pretty cool sounding record, if you can get into Christian heavy metal you'd dig the guitar sounds a lot.

You are correct except that the Rocket is also on track 10 blended with the Marshall.
One of my go to albums for just pure guitar/amp interaction. Listen to it with a good set of cans. The clean harmonics of the Rocket and the chime of the 'pools is sooo nice!

Hey guys,

Just got a copy of the Novella CD "A Liquid Earth".

I thought I would post the first song "Story" until such time as their lawyer or record company threatens to sue me. At this point I have not even listened to it yet. I have only had the CD for about 20 minutes. It came in today's mail :D

Anyway here is the link to an .MP3 file.

Omar if you want to host this file and some others from the album let me know.

Is it just that track, or is the Rocket not particularly gained out? Not saying that's a bad thing, but I expected something like a boosted Top Boost.
