which express for me?

Post by axpro »

Hey guys I was wondering, which express version is "the one" (although that is subjective isn't it?) I like Hepdog 2's sound clips in the files section, and have a donor amp of a Mesa Satellite 60. It seems to have pretty hefty iron... any ideas?

Thanks in advance,

Start from a known schematic, then tweak to taste. There is no "THE EXPRESS" as far as I know. Everyone seems to tweak them to suit their own needs/wants.

Next thing you know, you'll tell me i should have ordered a kit from ceriatone instead of the dc30 i have on order! Jeeze Darin!!! I an't made of cash!!! :D

I am thinking of doing a francesca for starters... the iron on this chassis is holy mother of god huge and heavy for a small combo. currently 2 12ax7's and 2 6l6's, but that should be easy enough to change. It's just funny, there is SOOO many schematics to dig through, just didn't know if there was one that most people started off from
:) thanks as always for the help Darrin,

The iron you are wanting to use probably has voltages that are too high for an Express if it was running 6l6s. Sounds like it would make a great Dumble clone however.

Kelly 90 and Franny are virtually the same. I used the Kelly 90 stuff that you can find here:

Nice clean schematic.

Yeah, the voltages are probably too high for an Express.

How about a Komet?

:D

After listening to a few clips and doing a bit of digging, i think a komet would be right up my alley! now, who has a schematic???? (or even a <shudder> layout?)

:P
Has anyone built one without the tube rectifier? I do have a 5v transformer on the way, but that is earmarked for another project. what about a Weber copper cap?

Search for the "Asteroid" and I think you'll be quite happy with what you find.

Sorry Jack/mlp

I have done the search like 10 times, i get 9 threads, none of which has a schematic!!!! Maybe i am snuffing too much solder, but much to my own (and my bosses) chagrin i can't seem to find one!!! lots of photos of layouts but that seems to be it

Hmmmm seems like the schematic is nowhere to be found...

Start with this:

https://tubeamparchive.com/files/Expres ... iation.jpg

Remove the 220K between the 330K and the 0.1uF. (replace it with a wire)

Change the 10K resistor to 3.3K. Add a cathode follower between the last stage and the 22nF+220K resistor that goes to the PI input and you got the concorde version. Keep it as is and you got the K60.

For the concorde, the filter caps goes 110uF,40uF,20,20,20 with choke,20K,10k,10K dropping resistors. Plate voltage is 465V diode rectified. For the K60, it's choke, 1K, 10K,10K IIRC and 40uF instead of 110uF. Tube recto.

For the layout, look at the pictures for inspiration.

I will look at the schem and check the values you mention, another member offered to send me a pdf file tonight, so hopefully i can get it all together. I am not expecting to start until i get some supplies which will be in a few weeks (a few parts i ordered are on backorder, and i am waiting for the full load before shipping.

THanks for the help!
