Newb with tone stack question
Hey everyone I just got a ceriatone expression and while it's a stellar amp, I find the mid focus is way more than what I need. What can I change in the tone stack to change this to more of a Marshall spec?
Thanks in advance
Thanks in advance

Re: Newb with tone stack question
Most importantly what speakers are you using?
It might be hard to get a Marshall frequancy response out of the wreck tone stack. As one stack is run off of the plate and the other a cathode follower. Probably try the 33k slope resistor inplace of the 100k would be a good start

Re: Newb with tone stack question
All speakers are English made v30's.
Re: Newb with tone stack question
V30's might be your problem right there. They are very mid focused speakers. Also, if your Expression uses Nik's transformers, they are not ideal for a Wreck, and might also be part of the problem. Before you go messing with the tone stack, try a different cabinet, maybe one that a friend has, which is loaded with G12M25's or G12H30's, or something similar. See if that helps.
Re: Newb with tone stack question
my 2x12 has v30's my bogner 4x12 has an x pattern of v30's and t75's. As far as tranny's go it has classic tone.
Re: Newb with tone stack question
My experience with T75's is that they are rather mid-scooped in some scenarios. But I don'[t know that cabinet, and with V30's in the same cab, who knows what the results will be? Have you tried it with that cab? Do you still feel it is mid heavy?
Re: Newb with tone stack question
To put it in perspective I run a lot of mids on my Marshalls, usually well over half and for solo boost I push it even more with an EQ pedal. Now my EQ has been designated to scooping some mids out. It sounds great just way to many mids. As far as cabs go, I've tried it with what I have and a gb loaded cab and it's the same to my ears.
Thanks

Re: Newb with tone stack question
I'm using a Bogner Cube with a vintage 30 in it... I like it really well. Maybe that's because none of my Wrecks are especially overwhelming with low end performance... the original tonestack values give me a pretty balanced output.
I've sold lots of replacement trannies for Ceriatone amps and most owners usually report an obvious change for the better.

Re: Newb with tone stack question
On the T75's, I agree with sliberty when he says that they have an overall scooped quality...but you might not be hearing that when paired up with the V30's in your 4x12...
Vintage 30's have much more of a pronounced midrange, especially in the 800hz to 2000hz range, which can be way too much/too bold for some people...
But more important is the fact that Vintage 30's are much more efficient than the T75's, (V30's @ 100db, T75's @ 97db) so they'll be putting out ALOT more volume than the T75's...
I'd seriously consider loading the T75's in to your 2x12 cabinet so you can hear them alone....

+1 on V30 pronounced midrange output. Try a G12M65 CreambackTurbojunkie wrote:On the T75's, I agree with sliberty when he says that they have an overall scooped quality...but you might not be hearing that when paired up with the V30's in your 4x12...
