with all tubes out except for the 5ar4
secondary's 530v
B+1 374v
B+2 372v
B+3 268v
B+4 228v
B+5 217v
with the 3 12AX7 approximately same voltages
with the 4 EL84s and the 3 12AX7 in I get
secondary's 505
B+1 150v
B+2 148v
B+3 92v
B+4 77v
B+5 74v
any advice on how to trouble shoot this?

Re: rockets voltage problems
Well you are drawing current when you should not be, so you either have something connected wrong or you have slithers of copper touching something they should not be... have you followed the schematic? pictures please....
looks like you have grounded the plate resistors, dropping ~ 11v to the final stage, means you are drawing approx 1.2mA current, through a 220k resistor would leave you with a voltage close to what you have taking into account tolerances, to check this measure the voltage drop over the 220k plate resistor with the 12AX7 removed, it should be nothing

Re: rockets voltage problems
Start by putting the preamp tubes in and measure the rail voltage.
Put two of the power tubes in and seem what happens.
One would think it has to be a tube or a wiring error that causes the tubes to conduct hard on. I thought you'd see a valve red plate under such conditions.
