Speaker recommendations for a liverpool....

Post by gtrcollectr »

What are you guys playing through with these amps?

Mine is very bright and seems to need a darker speaker. S2 recommended the G12-75 and I know he has used them with his express. Has anyone else tried this speaker? If not what do you recommend?

Thanks,
Todd

That was one of my choices also, looks like a good compromise. I wanted to build a vertical 2x12 for space reasons but I have played through my buddies 4x12 and I like the sound of a full 4x12.

I'm waiting for my Ceriatone Liverpool to arrive (ready-built - I'm not that crazy :) ). I plan on using my two 1x12 cabs with 1975 Fane 60w speakers in them. They've had 32 years to mature, and don't sound brittle at all. :)

Of course, they may well still sound awful, in which case, thanks for the tip about the Celestions. 8)

I'm very tempted by a vertical 2x12 (a 4x12 is too big, heavy, cumbersome...) - any opinions on that??

Cheers :)

Just to be clear, I'm only using those speakers because that's what Joe B was playing when I was building his amp and I needed to replicate it. I plugged my Express clone into the cab and really liked the results, but it probably isn't my best case scenario.

I have a pair of UK made G12Ms in the closet that will eventually go into my 4x10 sized 2x12 cabinet. I also want to try a pair of G12H30s with the Express and see how that turns out.

Then there's the hard on I have for Emis new speakers. So many speakers, so little time...

But for now, I am using the G12Ts and they sound pretty darn good with such a bright amp.

OTOH, my Express is on loan so much of the time, I never actually get to play it myself :(

The g12t-75 is a very scooped speaker with almost no mids, while it sounds great when chugging power chords I do want a good all around speaker.

I am going to round up some greenbacks or equivalents and see if I like em. I need to build the cab first so I will post up my results when its all said and done.
