New guy here- introduction with questions

Post by Koolaide »

Hi all,
wanted to introduce myself here. I am a self taught hobbist, and have built 2 amps- fender tweed champ and a 5-e3.

I have only recently learned of KF and TW, saw the names ect, just never realized what a great designer and amp. Now all I can say is think I have found "the tone"

I have been lurking and reading some older post, and am looking for some answers to the following questions. Any help is appreciated.

- From review of the schematics, it looks as though only 1/2 of V2 is used. Is this correct?
-I am having trouble understanding the phase inverter- type and how it works. Any answers appreciated.

Thanks to all forum members for sharing their knowledge and making this forum available.

PS I have beem in touch with RJ and expect to purchase a complete kit from him soon.

Cheers,
Jim

Correct.

This type of PI is commonly called a "long-tailed pair." Google around or see the materials sticky for sources of information.

Hi Jim,

Lots to learn here. Also check out this site for info on all tube stuff and eventually buy his book...

Hi Jim.. Welcome to the board.

The guys here are awesome. I had about the same amount of experience as you and with help from these guys I successfully constructed my own Express.

Take you time and ask lots of questions. You will do fine and will be in tonal bliss before you know it

Welcome Jim. There are lots of really smart and knowledgeable (and even nice) guys here to help you out.

BTW, whenever asking about a TW, be sure to mention which model you are referring to. There are 3 that are commonly discussed (Express, Liverpool and Rocket), and then there are at least one or two others (for which much less is known, and less discussion goes on).
