12" Speaker for KT66 Rocket

Post by jkey04 »

I just got my KT66 Rocket build finished this weekend and I am in the process of constructing a 1x12 combo cabinet for it. Im curious to know what 12 inch speakers you guys are using with your EL84 and KT66 Rockets.

I built an EL84 Rocket about a year ago and have been playing it thru a Celestion Gold and LOVE it! With this KT66 version though, i have it set up for more gain and more bottom end, so i was thinking about a ceramic speaker. With the intention of running these two amps in stereo i want the two amps/speakers to balance nicely together. A few speakers that I am considering are:

Celestion G12M-65 Creamback
Celestion G12H-75 Creamback
Weber 12F150

I know that I may just need to buy a couple different ones and try them out.

I am a fan of the G12H30, but since the KT66 Rocket is putting out between 45 and 50 watts right now, Im not sure it would be smart to load one into the cab. I did notice that Dr Z loads a G12H30 into their EZG50 that is rated at 50 watts....I dont really understand how it doesnt blow the speaker unless the power handling of the H30 is that underrated. I do hope to bring the KT66 Rocket down to the 40w range (I have some cathode biasing resistors on order to play with).

Does anybody have any experience with these speakers?

Thanks ahead of time for your input!

Might be sacrilege but for KT66 Rocket I like my 1 x 12 cab with an Eminence Commonwealth.
225W - Big Heavy thing. Sounds great.
And you won't blow it up.

Mine likes Celestion Vintage 30 family where from Celestion, WGS, Carvin, or Mojotone.

It also likes my Scumback H75-16HP-LHDC speakers in 212 slant.

The Weber Legacy likes Rocket/Vox builds and is definitely a cousin of the V30 family.

I recently ordered a Celestion G12H75 Creamback. Its a new speaker for Celestion this year. My plan is to finish construction on the cabinet this weekend and get it loaded in to see how she likes the KT66 Rocket.

Thanks for the responses.

My amp is about 45 watts so i was unsure about getting a G12H30 for it, so i went with the H75. I didnt want to push a brand new H30 too hard and blow it.

So you're running fixed bias at the moment?
