I'll try and contact him and let him know. I know he gets a lot of emails.

My PC took a crap the other day, and had to load windows 8 on it. And for some reason its not updating my emails. My last one was last Friday!

Waiting on a restore disc so I can put it back the way it came. I hate windows 8.

I stay away from the "apps" on 8. Awful. There is a way to get rid of that silly new start screen, too...I need to figure it out myself.

Yeah I saw that, and all the details of how.. I know they all have good and bad about them. but 8 to me is all bad. Wonder who sits and dreams up this stuff. Best way for me is to go back to how it was. I think I have saved all my stuff I need.

Richie, if you have any doubt that you didn't get everything you need on your disk, do yourself a favor and get a new HDD as well as an external USB drive enclosure. Put your old HDD in the external enclosure and the new HDD into your computer. That way you can always access the data on your old drive. New HDD's and external enclosures are dirt cheap on ebay.

Cheers,
Lou

I forgot to add: jump the hell off that sinking win doze ship and get yourself onto a Mac at your earliest convenience!

Or... FORMAT C: and then drop Ubuntu Linux on that puppy. Actually I think you can skip the FORMAT...

Yeh, I suggest mac too, but I've been playing with Ubuntu using Parallels and it's really awright. There's a learning curve but it's developed into a very nice (mostly) non techno geek OS. Over the years I've played w/ it on and off as buying a $1300 13" laptop every 4 years is starting to bug me and I might want an out one day. If I hadn't been Mac for 20 years and now had to choose btw Win 8 and Linux I'd make the Linux jump - Free updates for the rest of your life.

Do a dual boot set up and play with it now and then. You might need an out too as the MS phone isn't doing too well. Who knows where MS will be in 5 years. The Chrome OS is a bit of a bummer, it really wants you to live full time the cloud. We're (I'm) not there yet.

I'm not sure if I'll ever be at a point where I am ready to trust my data longevity or security to 'the cloud'.

I thought about getting Win 8 for my desktop at home. I mostly use W7 on a laptop at work, which is where I go online most, do a lot of design work, and in fact do almost everything. (My job is rather sedentary.)

The home box still has XP on it. I know, dinosaur. Thus the thoughts of W8. But after hearing you guys I might try a dual boot with W7 and Ubuntu. Can't afford a Mac. Can't build one myself like I'm used to doing. So, as much as I'd like to play with one, I'm stuck in Gatesland.
