opinions on OT, Stancor vs Heyboer vs Pacific

Post by aaronz28 »

i'm assembling an Express clone - and wondering if there is any noticeable difference between the three =

i've read that the Stancor seems a bit more hi-fi with less perceived gain but i don't know if that is accurate.

just wondering what (if any) noticable consistent differences exist between the three?
What?

The Heyboer and Pacific are clones of the Stancor.

Everytime I hear people talk about the 'Older' Stancor wrecks they call them darker and not as agressive. I think Glen's newer clip references this, as well as the real new (bad sounding) clip a few months ago at Ultra as well. I just talked to a guy who's owned 13 and he confirmed this too. He also mentioned a scenario where one of his Pools just wham bam had a shorted tranny and I forget which tranny he said, but that was very strange to hear. One of the Stancors.

Either way, this will always come down to subjectivity, and require doing the testing yourself. Just the nature of the ear.
