Building a Rocket in the UK

Post by duriehill »

Hi all

I'm a new joiner to this community, but have been browsing the pages for inspiration on my next amp build -and I've chosen a Rocket!

I'm seeking advice from those that have built one in the UK. Specifically where I can source a PT and OT for this?

Thanks

Hi Mate, welcome to the most addictive game in town, i,ve had trannsformers from bluebell audio before, Vox spec are pretty close on the power side, my latest project which will get going after christmass i imported some iron from Mecury Magnetics, they do specific wreck traffos, not that much more expensive than hammond items. i sure some of the more experianced builders will have other ideas for sourcing iron

you might ask the guy who runs this place.

http://www.ampmaker.com/store/36W-push- ... ormer.html
He has 36 watt transformers or may leads on where others may be found
. Just send him an email.

those looked very nice..

i don't know how close this might be to you. But they list, until sold out...
those IGPW marshall transformers. Although the 45 might make a good transformer to use.
Just for the heck of it, if i lived there i'd grab those and set them back.
i know people had a hard time getting those years back. But this "store" is supposed to sell those or distibutor. Maybe check to make sure they are in stock. Those are the Ingo transformers. But the 18 and others, i'd be a grabbing those if i was there..

We need a Euro RJ, wish I had the capital I'd do it. As my Rocket is on hold for $ 4 parts, I did find these euro AC30 OT alternatives:

http://www.marble-amps.com/marble.asp?p ... &form=list
http://www.marble-amps.com/marble.asp?p ... &form=list

these guys offer an AC30 PT and OT:
http://www.welter-electronic.de/index.htm

http://livinginthepast-audioweb.co.uk/i ... rmrclassic

note: these all have only 8&16 ohm taps if that matters. Marble said they'll wind me one with 4,8,16.

Sowter has something too but it'll make for a very pricey Rocket

Let us know what you try.

Tried Tube-Town? seems fair with shipping and prices. Shipping in the EU is just plain steep. Everything in the Eu is just plain steep!

problem is , in this case, - Norway is not in the EU......which in all other cases I'm quite pleased with.... :D

but that being the fact, postage doubles, and VAT fees apply....

Steve at valvepower appears to have expanded his transformer line. Follow the link to ebay from the valvepower web page.

Thanks, Pablo.....
I had seen those guys before, but completely forgotten about them........
Hammond prices are higher than Bluebell in the UK, but those inMAD OTs are rather favourably priced.....
anyone knows anything about them?
