Express PT wire routing

Post by Miket »

Hi guys,
I'm about to embark on my first TW express build. I'm using a chassis from RJ and Marstran express transformers. I have realized that the pt has primary and secondary wires on opposite sides, in the same fashion as the ot. But traditionally the express chassis has only one hole for pt wire routing. If I make a second hole to suit my pt, will I run into any problems?

Cheers

I did some testing and realized that the filter caps take up all the room in that area. *facepalm*
If I rotate the bottom layer of filter caps 90 degrees, there is enough room for a second hole. Would this be a feasible option?
Or should I leave them and just route all the wires through the one hole ?(ugly).

I had the exact same issue with my build. Take a look at my build photos

I ended up pushing the caps a little forward and also ended up putting the smaller one below and larger ones above. Caps being pushed forward also allowed me to squeeze the VVR board and pot in there. So all worked out in the end. Works and sounds just fine. Good luck with your build.

Sure, rotate the caps. I did that in my Rocket builds.

Move the tone board over to the left and carefully arrange the other board on the right. Cut the board to fit around the two switches.

Put your PT bolts through from the inside of the chassis to allow more cap room. It will fit you just need to think through the process.

Thank you guys for your replies!
I did more reading and ended up buying two jj can caps that I have seen some people use (before your replies came in), so now it seems I'm spoiled for choice.

Would there be much noticeable diff in the working of the amp between the cans and the traditional filter caps?

No the amp will be good with can caps many people have gone that route.
