Intro and question about chassis layout
Hello all, really enjoying the community here..... this is my third build, recently completed a 100 watt plexi clone, and some simple mods. Now Im ready to try a trainwreck build and see what all the fuss is about!
So.... I was shopping at mojotone and saw some JTM45 chassis really cheap ( like 35.00 US, I think) So I bought it thinking I would build a JTM45. As it turns out, the huge discount was due to this chasiss being built wrong (IMHO) It appears that the sheet aluminum is first cut to size, then the holes are stamped out, then it is placed on a metal brake to bend it into a "box" shape. Well, I think mine was bent with the wrong side up....it looks correct.... but all the holes are reversed...i.e. input jack on far RIGHT side instead of left etc.
Anyway, Im gonna try it..... anyone think that slightly longer leads will negatively affect this build? I really feel like the extra fabrication and headaches will force me to understand what I am connecting better, than if everything fell into place...does that make sense?

A Marshall.. with input jacks on the right? It's correct.
Signatures have a 255 character limit that I could abuse, but I am not Cecil B. DeMille.
Re: Intro and question about chassis layout
Mojo a while back was selling some custom JTM 45 chassis a customer had built and never picked up, maybe you got one of those.
Re: Intro and question about chassis layout
I think it may be one of those "custom" chassis you mentioned.... I noticed that the corners are not welded, I think this would be the last step in finishing these. They are marked "Roccaforte" I looked up those amps.....did not see this chassis listed.
But regardless.....I am going to make an amp out of it.
thanks for the assistance folks

you have a legendary chassis
Re: Intro and question about chassis layout
Not sure which way you mean this...... is this a brand name you are referring too?diagrammatiks wrote:you have a legendary chassis
Now that I am on the homestretch of this express build... I see I am going to have to SHOEHORN all of the components into this tiny thing....especially the 6 filter caps... i was going to stack them, but will run into height limits....this thing is not very deep either. No worries, its gonna be sweet.... my express build is going to cost 445.00 plus this silly oddball chassis for 35 bucks.

here is the chassis before starting

Roccaforte is a good amp brand.
You have three can cap holes punched so aren't you going to use them?
There is no tube rectifier hole.

Re: Intro and question about chassis layout
The cap can holes are a mystery to me.....they look like the holes on my plexi clone., this was supposed to be a jtm45 chassis I think.....but aren't those caps installed horizontally against the inner chassis wall?
Regardless, I have 3 20uf Sprague atoms and 3 40uf Sprague atoms that need to be mounted on a board TW style.......pics coming up

Re: Intro and question about chassis layout
Not much room for cap stack.
The amp looks like it was intended to run 32/32uf x 2 under the tone board.
The can cap hole next to the power tube holes appears larger so must have intended to run a can cap in series 50/50uf or 100uf/100uf. With solid state rectifier board which can go on side or between PT and tone board.

Re: Intro and question about chassis layout
Update: this amp ended up gigging, and actually touring....but has been extremely unreliable......to make the customer happy, I am rebuilding this amp in a proper steel case, as I had to shoehorn everything into this tiny aluminum chassis.........which meant stuff is constantly shorting against each other or the chasis
