Never recorded it that way but I've done it several times. Old USA 6CA7s are great tubes more punchy than an EL34 but not as smooth. Just about any tube with the same pinout will work in an Express, and that was one of Ken's advertised "feature" of the amp. 6V6, 6L6, 5881, EL34, 6CA7, 6550, perhaps even KT66 and KT88... The OT and low B+ will limit the power of the bigger tubes and you won't get more than 35 watts, though with 6V6s you will get a little less power. Even though you may get lucky with the bais simply left "as is" I always check it when changing power tubes.
