Rocket OT

Post by Structo »

I'm planning on building a Rocket soon and I getting all the ducks in a row.

I have a OT from a D'lite build that has dual primaries at 4K2 and 8K.

Would the 4K2 work OK with the 4x EL84 output?

I'm still on the fence about the power amp, whether I want to stick with the EL84's or go bigger with KT66 or 6L6.

I would say you have a good primary value there at 4200 ohms, not a problem. The 'authentic' Vox AC30 values I've seen from a variety of experts range from 3900 to 4300 ohms, FWIW. Still, as I'm sure you know, some OTs just plain sound better than others.

The one I like is the MCI JCM800 OT at 3600 ohms and it's reasonably priced. Just remember to run the Sovtek EL84M type tube if you want the traditional Rocket sound that KF preferred: Bright and crunchy with a vocal midrange and plenty of bass on tap, as well.
Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

Thanks!
I think I will use it, I can always change it later if it doesn't rock.
