Personally I like the g12m25 greenbacks. We loaned a friend our "Junkyard Express" for the summer to tour with and he played it through a Vox 4x12 cab with 4 of the above speakers and it sounded fantastic. I would highly recomend this combination to any one.

Thanks Dana
Was thinking along those lines either the greenback or the vintage

My express sounds amazing through vintage Greenbacks. You're in England so relatively speaking you can still find good deals there here they just cost an arm and a leg. I like the 25 watt speakers a bit better then the H30s but with EL34s the H speakers will open up the tone some by pushing a bit more bass and high treble then the 25 watt speakers.

Re: Speakers to go with express clone
I have a Ceriatone Express on order and was wondering if the quad of G12-65s I have would be a good match. Any thoughts?

Re: Speakers to go with express clone
Hi,
I'm using an old Marshall basketweave cab that was originally a 1x18 but I converted it to vertical diagonal 2x12. It's larger than a model 1936 and has good bottom end. The first speakers I had in there were the 70th Anniversary G12H30's, whislt they were ok, I thought they had too much bottom end in my cab and not enough high mid or top.
I got a pair of mint 1977 G12M25's off ebay for £60 and these are perfect for my cab with the Fuchs Train 45 and with the Ceriatone Express. Perfect bottom end, smooth mids and top. I've always liked the 25's though.
Cheers,
Rob.

Re: Speakers to go with express clone
Thanks for the info guys.

Allynmey, please let us know what you think when you get the Greenbacks.
Does anyone have any experience with the Avatar 4x12? They are a ridiculously low $378 loaded with your choice of several different types of Celestions, including Greenbacks.

Re: Speakers to go with express clone
If you do get the Avatar I'd really like to know how it compares to a Marshall type cab. I know it's smaller, but if it still sounds good the smaller size would be a plus since I'm my own roadie these days.

Let's kick this thread back into life!
Has anyone here ever tried their Express (or similar amp) with EV's?
I was wondering... Apparently Gary Moore had a Marshall cab loaded with EV's back when he recorded Still Got the Blues. Can anyone check that?

Go to this link to hear a modified Ceriatone - ie sprague caps and 6V6s to hear what a single Celestion Alnico Gold in an open back cab sounds like... with a Tele and Strat.

Re: Speakers to go with express clone
Hi,
I am using a 4X12 with heritage G12M-25's and it sounds incredible with my wreck clone. I've A/B'd with several other 2X12's and 4X12's with various celestions, and this sounded to me the best. You'll ultimately need to find what is right for you, however.

Re: Speakers to go with express clone
I have two EVM12L loaded into a 4x12 for detuned cab and my Express sounds better with my old Greenbacks. The Greenbacks distort in a way that seems to fit the Express. Tone Tubby alnico hemp speakers also sound great as do Scumback SA12M -25.

Re: Speakers to go with express clone
I played on these clips using my original Express and Scott's Ceriatone Clone. Panned full left is a slant w/old '71 G12M 25s w/lead cones. Panned full right is a straight with an old '68 G12H 30 watter w/bass cone.
The straight actually has 3x 25s in it, but we miked the lone 30 in that one.
These clips should give you some idea how these old speakers sound. The new Scumback speakers are highly rated clones of these old speakers. Either way, I think a good clone of an old G12M 25 watter or originals would be perfect. 30s tend to be louder, and some can be brighter especially if they haven't been played much. The new Heritage Celestions are also worth checking out. I love the Heritage G12M 20 watter in my 18 watt Marshall.
