450V or 500V for Express?

Post by azatplayer »

Layouts and schems and the BOM state 450V thru the PS for an express.
And the few pics i can make out of francesca have 450V markings on the top 20uf caps. These caps are now outrageously overpriced (someone at CDM must know we are here...)
Looking at a lot of other pics tho and seems 500v are the norm.
Hard to get 500V caps. But the 450V variants are plentiful.
What are folks using?

Physical size is the most important determining factor.
The caps have to fit when you put the bottom plate on.

Traditionally Mallory, though I've seen everything from F&T, ICR, Sprague, and Generic Nicholson used in clones.

If you aren't going for a traditional build go for a physically smaller capacitor with a higher voltage. i.e. F&T

Tubesandmore.com is a good source for small quantities of parts.
