Finished up my mini wreck combo

Post by amplifiednation »

I got my mini wreck 4-4-0 all set up in this combo cab with a V30. It sounds pretty good! I took the bypass cab off of V1b to try to tame it a little bit and have been playing around with some lower gain pre-amp tubes. There still is barely any headroom, but that was to be expected.

The amp has great tone! It mellows out pretty well, doesn't get too loud. Very cool little amp. Thanks to the amp garage, it didn't have any problems starting up.

Nice Taylor. So you had to back off a bit on the gain? What speaker you running.

The amp is for a friend and this will be his first tube amp. I figured he would want some sort of clean tone so I clipped that bypass cap out. It took out some saturation, but the amp lost some volume too. Maybe a switch would be good there. It sounds great and is loud enough to make the neighbors mad

I have a v30 in the combo, it is supposed to be pretty efficient. The tone is all there with the amp though it sounds incredible. I threw some old glass in the preamp and it really sparkled. It was a cool build for my second amp. I drilled the chassis out by hand, that wasn't fun.

I should be firing up #3 today...fingers crossed

Maybe bias the first stage more centered instead?

Btw is that a dual triode output tube? I got a 6sn7 coming from rj to do a 2watt output option on mine. What tube is that?

Yes, it's a 6sn7. Sounds really good! I took some more time with the amp today and found the clean sweet spot. It really does sound awesome. The volume is perfect for an amp at home. Still pretty loud, but you can crank it up and not have your ears ringing.

With more playing with volume controls and the prescence knob I was able to really find some good clean tones with just a tad of breakup. very very cool. It's got a great amount of drive on tap!

I checked out the 440. Looks good dude! For bias adjust are two necessary? I planned my board for just one. Not sure if using different sides of the same tube would warrant separate bias, or not.

I kinda feel like it might be overkill, but its not going to hurt anything. I'm still learning how to use the bias pots!

No more overkill than on any amp with a separate bias pot for each side. I don't know any history on 6SN7's to say if they are typically well balanced or not, but for a couple of bucks, why not do it?
