My Express Clone recorded!

Post by Big Jim »

Hi folks,
A local recording studio borrowed my Express clone to record a song thats going to be on a collaborative CD to support the music program at Stetson University here in Florida. My daughters boyfriend owns the studio and donated his time and equipment, and I was more than happy to loan out my Express for a good cause. All the guitar parts were done with a Les Paul Classic into my Express. The cab was a 1960A with the stock 75 watt Celestions closed up in a isolation booth. I think the guys did a pretty good job on the song. I hope you like it. :D

Thanks guys,
I couldn't help but grin as the boys were working out that song. They were really happy with the amp. I think all the knobs were pretty much straight up. Steven, (my daughters boyfriend) wants me to build one for the studio as a "house" amp. He likes the idea of having an an amp that can do it all. Should be an upcoming build around here! He is a great studio engineer, and really seems to know his stuff. He didn't do the actual sound production however. Andrew Brooks, the guy singing the "opposing" vocals did. Andrew also played a few of the guitar tracks as well. The artists name is Jacob Spangler. Stetson has a great music program, and is certainly worthy of some community support. This song doesn't fall into a genre that I usually play, but if it's got heavy guitars, and a heavy beat, I'm in! It's rock and roll and I like it.

Sounds great!

That would be cool to have an amp you built put on an album.

I appreciate the positive feedback. I can't take any credit here, all I did was build the amp. In fact, I wouldn't have been able to build an amp like that without the help of this forum. My son Justin is taking the Express to a sort of "guitar gear expo" down in Orlando this weekend. I have to work. :( Anyway, thanks for the replies guys.

Thanks again,
My son took the amp down to Orlando for the 2nd annual central Florida amp fest over the weekend. They had more than 50 amps there. The Wreck was one of the amps everyone wanted to try out. Justin said that it got a lot of compliments from players of all ages. One gentleman had actually played "Nancy" somewhere before, and said the clone compared favorably. Cool. One guy did however complain about the excessive feedback he experienced playing metal riffs on his hollowbody Gretch while standing right in front of the cab  Other standouts were a guys collection of Vintage Blackfaces, a hottroded JCM800 clone, and the Titan amps. Justin said those Titans were the loudest amps he had ever heard. Multi channel/gain stage monsters. Supposedly built here in Central Fla. by a local builder. Very impressive. Anyone I know here?
