I am going to build a 6AQ5A wreck. Either a Liverpool or an Express, I'm still up in the air right now. Knowing the voltage limitations on the 6AQ5A's, I have two PT's that I was considering using 250-0-250 @ 70mA or 275-0-275 @ 100 mA. Which is a better fit?
According to the tube data ( http://www.nj7p.org/Tube4.php?tube=6AQ5A ) the amp will draw 75-80mA at max signal. And is fixed or cathode bias easier on the PT.
Now since in either case I will be using solid state rectification and both transformers have a 5V @ 2A tap can I convert the unused current capacity for use on the HT secondaries?

Well, the 250-0-250 is the right voltage but, as you suggest, the current is a little light. If you were doing a tweed Deluxe type circuit, AND running a 6X4 rectifier, well you would be home with this PT. In fact, when you ask about 'borrowing' the rectifier tap for more current needs, this is pretty far fetched. Er, not done at my house anyway.
So that's my input. Good luck on your project. I would suggest something from MCI, something they make for the 18 watt Marshall amp maybe. And then take a look at the post: 'Xits X10 = liverpool half power?' Here, note the two 5K resistors ahead of the the rectifier diode chain(s). Maybe something to consider if you wanted to take any PT and dump a little overall voltage. Not sure if your 275-0-275 PT would fill the bill here, but maybe.

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?

Re: 6AQ5A Wreck
Jon, I started down that road but stalled a bit here lately... I was in the middle of tweaking it into submission when I got distracted otherwise. It's still think it's a good idea in my mind. Let me know if you conquer it. Mine will be a little tougher I think because I went with a non conventional approach.
