Recommendation for 1x12 cab

Post by mclmk8d »

I was able to obtain 2 speakers and wanted to get some cabs for them
The first is a Scumback H55 30w 8ohm which I want to give to Michael for his Pocket Rocket.

The second is a Fane Medusa 150, also 8ohm.

Any recommendations for cabs: builders, size, type, open/closed/convertible?

Give this one a try. Lots of thought went into the design.

I have a Marshall 800 series 1 x12 cabinet with a scumback that I use with my Express clone. I like the sound, but it doesn't keep up with drums. It works for gigs because we mic it anyway and it keeps the stage volume down. Even though the cabinet has a 3" port in the front, I had to make a new back to make it into a partially open backed cabinet. Otherwise it builds up enough pressure to spit out the speaker cable... not enough where it is obvious, just enough to stop playing and be really hard to figure out the first time :?

For my other sessions, I use a 2 x 12 or a 4 x 12 cabinet.

For the Fane Medusa, highly recommend a thiele ported 1x12.

I got one from this guy for my Fane Medusa:

He's pretty cool to deal with, but he does get back-logged with work. If you want it in a week, go elsewhere. But if you're willing to wait a bit, he's great quality with great price.

BTW, the standard covering is a spray-on, textured hard-rubber-ish. Tolex costs more, which is why he can do at his price. Haven't dragged mine all over the place, but it seems to be pretty sturdy stuff and would feel confident if I did so.
