Transformers back in stock

Post by Moose »

I got trannies this week and I THINK I've emailed everyone I had on my waiting list.

If you haven't heard from me, drop me a note from the link on my website and I'll square you away. I haven't updated the website to show in stock to give myself a little cushion to clear out the backlog, but I have lots of iron in the shop right now.

I can't apologize enough to everyone for the month's delay -- I should have had them back in stock by the weekend of the 4th, but I miscalculated badly.

Still offering transformers?

Post by Tim Hall »

I know this is a very old thread, but I can't seem to get a response from Moose. I emailed through the Toneslut website and sent a PM. Does anyone know if he's still supplying transformers, and if there's some other way to contact him? It's been a week since my first email.

Should be. I ordered mine last weekend. If you use a free email account, your emails might be getting sucked up in his spam filter (yahoo?).

I'll send him an email for you.

Hey thanks, BBQLS1. I sent the email through my dedicated tim @ tim'swebsite.com address, so it shouldn't have landed in a spam folder.

I would really appreciate it if you could get a hold of him...I have a project I'm ready to get rolling on.

Thanks. The problem was with my email server blocking his response...I think it might have been trying to block "sluts" and "trannies." :shock: My mail hosting is pretty tough.

Anyway just to let everyone know, he had tried to contact me a few times.

Hey Chris if you carry-
Vintage Spec Express Output Transformer
* Primary: 6600 Ohms
* Secondary: 4 / 8 / 16 Ohms
* Steel: M19/26
* Watts: 35 (conservatively)
Vintage Spec Liverpool Output Transformer
* Primary: Dual 5200 Ohms
* Secondary: 4 / 8 / 16 Ohms
* Steel: M19/26
* Watts: 35 (conservatively)

and you also carry

Standard Output Transformer
* Primary: Dual 5200 / 6600 Ohms
* Secondary: 4 / 8 / 16 Ohms
* Steel: M27
* Watts: 35 (conservatively)

then why not carry this instead of the two seperate ones?

* Primary: Dual 5200 / 6600 Ohms
* Secondary: 4 / 8 / 16 Ohms
* Steel: M19/26
* Watts: 35 (conservatively)

He has a dual tap 4300/5200 on M19/M26, why not just do a triple tap 4300/5200/6600 on M19/M26 and cover all your bases :D

I'd rather have a single primary and choose the right transformer for the specific build. I don't like having to keep the unused primaries coiled up in the chassis and if you cut them short then you may as well have bought a single primary in the first place.

Funny, I started my Express and Liverpool both with the dual-tap trannies and now both of them have single-tap ones. Pacific in the Express and Toneslut Vintage in the Liverpool.

I couldn't be happier.

When I was experimenting with steel, it was brought up to me that some people prefer a single tap. For a couple of reasons:

1. Some people might worry it would sound different than the same tranny dual-primary

2. Single tap is more "original" -- closest to the real things

3. Fewer wires to cut and tuck away

I mostly prefer single primary for reason #3, but it all started with switching the Express tranny to match the formula in Franchesca. I didn't know how much each factor (number of taps, steel, etc...) affected the sound, so I made it exact. Especially in an Express, which is a fussy bitch when it comes to thing that don't affect other amps so much.

The express also seems to be the bread-and-butter of this forum. It's odd, because it's the least versatile of all the Trainwrecks and the poor Liverpool, which I feel is quite under-appreciated, is an awesome all-around rock amp. But the express was the focus as it's the most commonly requested tranny.

Having both single-tap 5200 and the dual tap 5200/4300 started as a misunderstanding withe Heyboer, but I'm glad I got to hear them both even if there's no real difference in a liverpool. And the 4300 ohm primary is a good all-arounder for quad El84 AND quad 6v6 amps, meaning I can build my double-deluxe or a non-authentic Rocket for a good price.
