rocket w/ 6146's
I've seen a lot of big bottle rockets and want to try one myself I have some 6146 tubes Ive been wanting to incorparate into a build ken said it was a great tube for bass ,I like alot of headroom any suggestions for how to retrofit theese tubes into a rocket circut would be helpful or am i going to far off board?

I would stick to the 6550 rather than the 6146.
why so?
ken seemed to think they sounded better than the 6550s and were more durable with a higher power output the only thing that throws me is the (grounding?) post on the top of the tube also I already have a very nice set of nos sylvanias laying around.

That is a plate cap I believe, not a grounding post

.........Now where did I put it?
Re: rocket w/ 6146's
Yes that is a HT lead to the cap (high voltage plate).
It was used primarly for RF applications..
Can handle up to 750v on the plate.

you can pick up 6146 much cheaper too than NOS 6550. The old Ampegs used those tubes. Another big tube similar and a bit bigger is the 6KG6, which is in some of the old Traynors. JJ makes an octal based one without a plate cap.

Richie now that sounds interesting.a bit bigger is the 6KG6, which is in some of the old Traynors. JJ makes an octal based one without a plate cap.

No way I would sell someone an amp with a 750 volt lead floating around outside the chassis!
