Hi Gurus,
Merry Christmas, and a Happy and Prosperous New Year to all.
I've built an EL34 powered Express based amp for a friend using Marstan Iron, and all the voltages seem to check out good as far as I know... which isn't much! I've used the Ceriatone layout except the filter caps are 47uf and 22uf, 1N5408 diodes for the power and bias supply, and followed the 'Express Build Guide Version 1.4' supplied on this board.

V5/2 3.33

My questions are:
1/ Why does the amp only make 25W, (40 volts) as measured on a 60MHz CRO, or is this normal?
2/ Is it normal for these amps to go from a perfect sine wave (at 1KHz) to a perfect square wave very quickly, like from about 2 on the volume to about 4 or 5?
Other than the above questions which may be just academic, the amp sounds amazing. Incredibly articulate with the guitar turned down to some awesome crunch when dimed! Very responsive to pick attack, and brilliant string separation when strumming chords. Having built myself a Marshall JCM800 (2204), and JTM45, as well as a Fender AB763 Black Face Twin, I've fallen in love with this amp and will do one for myself when this one is fully sorted.
Thanking you all in advance

For #2, set the amp volume at 12 to 1 Oclock and control the amount of clean vs distortion with your guitars volume knob. Actual output volume is about the same for most of that range.
