6.6K Transformer in a Liverpool?

Some of you may have been following the recent transformer discussions going on here at AGF/TAG.

In preparation toward stocking transformers, I've been on a mission to learn all that there is to the Trainwreck transformer history. I've made a few discoveries and yet confident that there is still much more to be learned.

It appears that Pacific only made one transformer set for Trainwreck. They did not and do not have available any output transformer for Trainwreck style amps except the 6.6K primary that we typically refer to as "The Express" output transformer.

Does anyone know if there was ever a Liverpool built with these 6.6K trannies or is it possible that Liverpools were built using another companies output tranny?

The 250-0-250 tap on the Pacific power tranny would be right for either a Rocket or a Liverpool. If we assume some variant of the Dynaco 470 is the right output tranny for a Rocket then that only leaves the Liverpool output tranny as a mystery.

My info came directly from the top at Pacific so I have good confidence in it. I am curious if anyone can offer up anything more.

I always thought that the early liverpools used the same stancor 3801 as the express. The 1985 natti mae has a grey output, "looks" like the same one in the express.

Stancor also had a 3800 tranny that looks just like the 3801 (even had the extra taps for 250/?? ) except it had a pri imp of 5k. I used one in my Liverpool and love it so much I bought the amp back from the guy I sold it to. mine is a Ginger clone so I am sure it is a little different than the Hattie Mae

I am familiar with the Stancors (just traded for an amp with a A-3801) and no doubt the A-3800 & A-3801 Stancors provided output for some of the wrecks as well as seem to be what the Heyboers we use are patterned after.

I am not familiar with the gray transformers that folks mention every now and then unless maybe some of those Stancors are gray. All the ones I am familiar with are black.

I have seen Triad transformers that are gray and have heard that those were used in some of the old wrecks. I don't know if this trivia implies that both Triad power trannies and output trannies were used. The only piece of trivia I found on them was that they had a 115V primary.

In my discussions with Pacific they said that they developed their Trainwreck trannies about 20 years back. So from 1989 on it seems reasonable to assume that the Express builds used the Pacifics. It's not clear that they know whether the Liverpool amps used their trannies or not.

I've read a couple pieces of info that indicate that there might have been some Liverpool amps made using the Dynaco 470 like the Rocket amps used. I don't have any pictures or documents to back that up but after 1989 I am curious what output tranny might have been used in a Liverpool.

I have one set of gray Pacific trannies for Express and the lastest I got from you rj are black. So not sure why that is.

Funny, the set of pacific trannies I got from them a few months ago was a color mixture: PT=black OT=gray.

Ummmm, different color paint?

It's easy enough to remove the bells and paint them however you like.

I used to work for a shop that had ginger pass through it a few years back, I'm trying to get a guy who works there to dig out the pics if possible/if they're still on the computer.

I don't know where Ginger falls as far as which year she was built but any picture of here is interesting either way. If we had info on any info or pictures on Liverpool amps built post 1989, that would go a long ways toward understanding if Pacific transformers were used in them.

ginger was the very first 1982.......stancor quit making the 3801 in 1989
