Man, we need to get this diagram posted somewhere so that this silly dance can finally end. :)

Here's a thread on Music Electronics forum that has all the info:

Hopefully Omar this is okay, since I'm just linking to a another forum, rather than posting the actual info here. If not feel free to delete this post.

AIRBRAKE WITH 100 WATT PLEXI

Post by JIMI HAIRLESS »

rockstah wrote:in other words its safe for my 100w plexi to use this airbrake?
Ken Fisher himself said it was perfectly safe to use with a 100 watter! The airbrake manual confirms this and suggests mismatching the load with a vintage amp:

"When using the Airbrake with older vintage amps, mismatching the load will be a safer way to operate. This will eliminate any overheating of the output transformer. For example, a Vox AC30 or vintage 100 watt Marshall should be run at 8 ohms through the Z Airbrake with a 16 ohm speaker load."

Maybe it's ok to do this now. If not, I'll retract it.

I see 3 resistors in the previously posted diagram?? The above layout however is right on the money!

I thought it'd be interesting to price out the parts based on the above diagram:

1. $9.83 Mouser# 588-L100J25RE: 100 Watt/25 ohm: Ohmite 270 Series
2. $17.42 Mouser# 588-D100K-25: 100 Watt/25 ohm: Ohmite 210 Series
3. $31.38 Mouser# 588-RJS150E: Ohmite Power: Rheostat: 50Watts: 150 ohms
4. $4.76 Mouser# 10WA365: Lorlin Rotary Switch: 2 pole: 6 position
5. $2.24 Mouser# 588-12-E: Resistor Mounting: brackets 4 needed
6. $3.28 Mouser# 588-2125E 2 extra lugs
7. $13.23 Mouser# 546-1444-14: 5" X 9" X 2": Hammond spot welded aluminum Chassis
8. $5.09 Mouser# 546-1434-14: 5" X 9": Hammond aluminum chassis cover
9. $1.63 Mouser# 75-715P400V0.1: Capacitors 400volts .10uF 5% ORANGE DROP

Total: $88.86

That's a doable price....compared to spending 3x cash on certain "name brand" products.
