Hey Guys ,My Cell is lost,I gotta get a new Sim card ,610-588-2698 is my home phone,Feel free to call,And It was you guys that got is running,Thanks ,THis amp is outstanding, and very quiet,I dont want to touch anything right now,Just play and burn it in,I really like the 6V6"s,They are a very sweet sounding tube,Set at 25 mill,Sounds great and the clean tone is very nice, and different than the EL 34"s so I set it up with the 6V6's and I really love this amp,Ken Fisher was a very smart dude!!!!Mikey What a self confidence BOOST!!!Mikey

I never did enjoy running the 6v6 so have stuck with the EL34's. I ran a pair of old 5881 for awhile but decided the EL34 really shine.

Congrats Mike.

WhoooHoooo, glad to hear the good news Mikey. It's always nice when they fire up with no problems the first try, but you don't really learn anything about the circuit when they do. Good job brother, I knew you would get it. It helps to have the excellent support of the super people of this board. I love this place!

osillation

Post by ampmike »

Hey Guys,Amp is running smooth,Got some mullards preamps and NOS 6V6"s,I think it really does the sound of a TW style express. My guestion is What is the excepted amound of oscillation,Like you really dont need to go past 1/2 way on the vol. Its just loud as hell. But what would be the test of setings on this amp.Where is the benchmark settings reguarding osillation in a stable express,Im sure theres plenty of threads you can send me too.Thanx Mikey

I have on many occasion (going for controlled feedback on a strat for example) gone as far as full up on the volume. I regularly go up to about 2pm, but the volume never really get's any louder once you get about 10am it just gets gainier. It may seem really loud as things get really sensitive on the guitar side and harder to control but it's more a gain thing. Once I get passed 1/2 the most I would have the treble would be about 2pm, and also the bass can then need some cutting back below 1/2 to keep the low end from getting too loose. That said, I can dime all the knobs on my original and two clones without any oscillation issues. Not to say that is required in a test, but I wonder if any such instabilities exist they are somewhat hampering the tone even before it truly audibly oscillates.

Thanx Glen,.Your vidio and playing is what inspired me to try this build. With a les paul it really wants to howl at high settings but with strats is much less osilation. So Im just looking closley at the francesca photos and going to try to fix any lead dress issues. and at the end of the day it was well worth building. The thing is Ive never played a real one so I really dont have any benchmark to compare.Keep up the good work Glen,Your a great musician!!

Well,I reflowed a couple solder joints, made some ground wires shorter.Just chopsticked looking for anything and believe it or not i heard a big difference. The amp is very quiet, does not howl with osilation any more.
I can take it to about 3/4 of the vol with a Les Paul standing inches away from a 4/12 marshall cab before it acts up.Im pretty happy now.Time to get this in a cab and just play guitar for a while,Thanks Again Guys,Mikey
