If you want some nice pickups for your Les Paul try Dave Stephens.

He has done some great work for me and really understands what made the Original PAFs along with TTOPS and other early Gibson pickups work so well.
Super pots? Any takers?

billyz - You know I actually know him from the jams here. He's a very nice man and yes, other friends that I know have some pickups that he makes. And they all seem to be good pickups. Well, this would be SCs, particularily soapbars which was a big focus of his at one time. I have not heard his HBs.
Skip to the chase, I knew him when he was starting his biz so I just know him as Possum, another gtr player and somebody that was trying to find some real deal PAFs that he could examine and duplicate. So I guess on this subject I am like those people who grew up with Jesus maybe, who say, 'woah, he's just a carpenter, right?' And this may be unfair I guess but I am in this camp. But I very much appreciate your sugggestion and, as you say, I should take a look at what he is up to with HBs these days. I mean, hearing about things that are working for the people here, well, that's why I post here, to learn something.
BTW, I also did my jam thing tonite and played the LP with the Fralin unbucker in it. I honestly had the time of my life with the gtr so that pickup ain't going away - ever! But I still have another LP to deal with and maybe I'll give Dave a call to see what his prices are and what he offers. I have heard he will let you keep swapping them until he gets things right, but for that matter, Lindy does this as well. And on that note, after tonite, my Fralin stock just went up in value....
Ah, so OK, THANK YOU for the suggestion, billyz. Actually it is very cool to hear that a musicians in Texas likes something made in Portland, Oregon. I will pass this on to Dave when I talk to him, and I will call him.

Most people stall out when fixing a mistake that they've made. Why?
Re: Super pots? Any takers?
Rooster, I have used Lindy Fralins pu's for years. He did rewinds for me before he was even making pu's. I still think his single coils are the best. Possum did some rewinds for me and suggested some of his PAF metal adjusting screws.
I tried them and sure enough they made a nice improvement. I know what you mean about a Prophet not being able to do miracles in his home town, ha ha. But, seriously, give him a try if you want the best vintage sounding PAF humbuckers. I know Throbacks are getting good reviews as well, But I have not tried them. Just for perspective, I found the Gibson Burstbuckers to be muddy and dull sounding, The 57 classic, harsh and edgy. YMMV
