There is more money in cloning high end HiFi tube amps than guitar amps. Look on ebay and you'll tons of 300B, 2A3, etc. HiFi amps out of China.
One BIG reason that immigration has been such and issue here in the US is that NAFTA has run it's course. All those factories that were built right across the border in Mexico are now mostly sitting empty. It wasn't just the US that took advantage of this labor situation, it was world wide. Now that a new cost effective labor market has opened up, most of the multi-national corps that had factories in those Mexico/US border towns have relocated to China. Thus, we have a large influx of hard working Mexicans coming to the US looking to make a living. Who's fault is all this? Our own fault for not getting active in our political realm. Our own fault for our excessive consumerism.

"And secondly, the parts in a Komet are vastly better quality than those used in any original TW. Ken designed the Komet, I'm sure he would be pretty pissed at your statement that a Komet isn't a Trainwreck."
-Buddy go and read this-
The Guitar Amp Handbook, by Dave Hunter
Pg. 201 In an interview with Ken Fischer
Ken says that Komet made the circuit and that he did minor revisions...From his mouth he said that he would have done things different...maybe you are Ken reincarnate tho???
Hinting that this vendor or that vendor's kits won't produce a "real" wreck might sway newbies reading this board. But for those of us that have successfully built incredible sounding wrecks, it comes off as more than a little pompous. This board is dedicated to building great sounding Dumbles and Wrecks AND helping others to do so, and to suggest that someone can only achieve that with one particular vendor is asinine.
- So starting with something that almost all of the parts will have to be replaced to get close to the original sound saves money how?? And letting newbies in on the truth of how good clones vs. bad clones will sound depending upon starting materials is going to defer them because ?? I believe that when good components are offered people shouldn't try and avoid them because of stubbornheadedness and interest in selling their friend's kits, if you don't want to source out parts too bad...that's what it's takes to make something that will have it's own character that can stand up with the real amps.
Tell you what. You build a TW from the "select" components using your vendor of choice. I'll build one using a two by four as the chassis with cheapest chinese sockets I can find screwed to the two by four. I'll use the only full set of caps I have on hand (Wima). I won't use a turret board and the standard layout, instead I'll use terminal strips and true point to point. I'll use carbon comp, metal film or carbon film, you choose. I'll use lamp cord or whatever wire you want me to use, and I will shield the whole thing with the cheapest aluminum foil I can find.
Then we'll both post clips and let people vote on which one they like best. We'll send the clips to Omar to post so no one will know which clip is which.
-Sweet I have a TW express clone that will be ready in the spring(although I didn't build it) and I will be happy to take the Neumann U-67 and let you hear some clips though a cab with 4x12" g12h 70th anniversary speakers. Now not to make you scared but this will be built by an extremely knowledgeable builder with as good of parts as it gets. I will be glad to humble your 2"x4" TW.
If you are here to learn or help others learn, then I apologize in advance for mistaking your intentions. Any other reason for being here is leeching off of this community.
-If you are trying to place me with the like of J of TR in the trolling sense then you need to realize the effort that I am going through to get the mysteries of the SSS revealed so that progression upon that schematic can be made- I'm not an amp company, nor do I build amps for sale I just use my personal time to try and further the knowledge of others.

Re: Trainwreck Chassis via Funkalicousgroove??
Simple corporate greed - like all of the engineers and programmers being replaced by H1bs in this country. They havent figured out yet how to outsource a CEO but I think its a great idea for the stockholder. If that is currently true, why the migration of manufacturing jobs out of the country? Do the line robots work cheaper in Mexico and Southeast Asia? It seems that manufacturers and the economy in general haven't realized that labor cost is "irrelevant."
Its no secret China is using this windfall in manufacturing to expand and modernize their military. Wonder why they would do that?
Thats why Ive been promoting my song:
http://www.madnamerica.com which is all about this stuff. And to boot it was recorded with my Express / Alnico Gold cab and uses both the 6V6 Brimars (Solo) and EL34 GE Mullards (Rythmn).[/url]
