ugh.. $4000 for a SLO
I'm spent less then $3k for all 3 of my Soldano combined. '93 SLO purple head, '00? Decatone Combo #8 of 13, '? Hot Rod. $4K is close to list prices.

Are we talking Canadian or US dollars?
Re: Trainwreck.com change
Maybe he'd like you better if you got JM to build Train 45's for you? Just a thought. LOLFUCHSAUDIO wrote:I like how realityczech continues to find excuses to slam me...see train-45 thread..sheesh

canadian.our dollar is usually below yours, so we bite it a lot sometimes. my slo was 4000 new plus tax. 12%. go figure.Gibsonman63 wrote:Are we talking Canadian or US dollars?
Re: Trainwreck.com change
I'm thinking your going to have to send that Train 45 to me so I can see if it sucks or not
We could send one around for a road test to all the TW section guys like they used to do with stomp box testing. Keep it for a week and pass it on.

Re: Trainwreck.com change
That's the problem. There so few of the Trainwrecks and even Trainwreck clones out there (at least in my circle of friends) that it is hard for us mere mortals to know if we are even close to an original on our builds, just that they sound good to us.
If you could have the amp to me by Thursday, I'll give it a proper field test at the local ice house during my weekly session.

Re: Trainwreck.com change
we really should plan an Amp Garage meeting rent a hotel and have a clone testing and meet each other.

We do stuff like this after hours at the various amp shows and NAMM. It wouldn't be too hard to arrange, it just takes $$$ for people to make the trip.selloutrr wrote:we really should plan an Amp Garage meeting rent a hotel and have a clone testing and meet each other.
Eardrums!!! We don't need no stinkin' eardrums!

i just commented that it didnt sound like my wreck at all.it had its own thing for sure. i returned it because a marshall super 100jh was available at my budget, so i bought that instead. a little more rare i figured. otherwise it sounded great. loud as hell, but great

Mrscratch,
No I believe Andy Fuchs said it was another gear page guy that said his train 45 sucked.

Re: Trainwreck.com change
That guy Realityczech, who perpetually has something stuck up has a$$ and takes any opportunity to say something negative against me. Not sure who he is, or what his problem is, but geez man, wtf ? The other dude (in California) simply didn't get along with a Wreck style amp. Most of what he complained about was inherent to the design. Yes, they are loud, yes, they hiss a bit, etc...he was more a matter of not realizing what he'd bought. Billy Yates played the amp and thought it was behaving properly. Sometimes it's simply not a fit...
I did some comparisons with real Wrecks along the way, as well as getting guidance from both Mark Kane and Allyn Meyers as far as part selection etc. The Train is pretty much an Express with DC preamp tube filaments and separate bias pots for each power tube. No other major changes. I have a few customers who either own real Wrecks or have friends who own them. The Heyboer transformers do respond differently than the stuff Kenny used.
The main differences IMHO are in the tubes (NOS or old) are much better than anything stock made today, the amps are brand new and not broken in, and I think with time the new amps will mellow a little. Like comparing a modern Les Paul to a 58, they will never be the same age...
Whatever, it's all good. Hope Mrscratch kicks some soundfiles out for us to enjoy !

+1 Andy
As a Fuchs owner, I can attest to the quality of your builds and sound. Your customer service is second to none. Don't let'm bother ya. Seems like there is always at least one out there.

I'm sure it's not cost effective but maybe as a special customshop option have you considered burning in the amps for "X" amount of time to get some of the new out of them. Reminds me of my daughter and shoes. She hates to wear shoes. We took her boot shopping for riding and I found a pair of broken in boots she just loves. It was a win win, and i would of paid any amount of $$$ to not have the shoe fight.

Re: Trainwreck.com change
Actually, our amps get a cycled one week burn-in. I have a lamp timer which feeds some very large relays. We alternately run 120 and 240 volt amps on and off, 4 hours at a time. You would be amazed at how it shakes out power and preamp tubes that die in the shop, and not after a customer gets his amp....I've done some studies on audio burn-ins, but not ready to commit to doing it (nor share) the procedures yet. I do think running audio through amps is as important as through speakers.

Re: Trainwreck.com change
I do the same thing in the shop, but for only 2 days, 4hrs on 4hrs off. I burn in the power tubes before I test them and retest the preamp tubes after they have been worked.
