Your thread and all the great help from the others here will be very useful for me. Upload some more pics if you have 'em!
i totally hijacked this thread for my build. Ha! If you have any questions, please let me know. I'd love to be able to share some of the knowledge that was shared with me.
Here's some more pictures. I added a shielded line for the input and a switchable boost (the optional C4 cap) today. It sounds incredible! I gotta get some nice tubes
Not as much headroom as I thought it was going to have but it cleans up very well to the volume on the guitar.

Yeah the boost is sweet. I want to put a 10uF cap for a second boost option in the extra free space I have on the board. I got a dpdt mini toggle in there so I can have two boost options in one switch as Fowler suggested. I may foot switch it like you did but the toggle is good for now. Great concept!
The breakup is great on the rocket and so are the cleans. I am very impressed with the amp. I built a cab for it today with an old shelf I had laying around but it ended up being too small by a tiny amount. I was trying to build another one when my wife came home and got pissed I was using the table saw in the basement. I didnt see was the big deal was. Hahah.
Very nice build Taylor and glad your liking the amp. I really like the boost switching with the two cap option so I can get the natural gain of the Rocket, then moderate gain 10uf and larger gain with the 25uf.
You may need to add the reverb pad on that second mini toggle as Normster did it really does help when your in the larger gain mode.
amplifiednation can you post some clean to mean sound clips? I would like to hear how the amp sounds especially with humbuckers. Ive been looking around on youtube but no luck seeing these reverb rockets. I am looking forward to building this one. Im in the process of putting a BOM together so i can get my ordering straight.
What PT/OT did you choose to use?
Also what reverb tank did you use?
ampbldr2 wrote:amplifiednation i have my first question. hehe
what size chassis is that?
17 x 8 x 2. I got it from allynmey

I'll try to get my condensor mic set up tonight and get some clips for you. The amp has a lot of low end and tons of honk with my les paul.
PT Hayboer HTS-8093-1
OT Hayboer HTS-9144
I think these are the one's RJ sells.
Tank is a medium length M8AB2A1B that I grabbed from mojotone.

May I ask what grid stopper you used on the input at V1?
Sometimes you can kill a bit of gain and shrillness by using a larger value there.
I used the 33k that was on the layout. That thing wasn't the easiest thing to wire into the shielded coax, I guess it wasn't the hardest either.
Interesting...I was just reading about that to avoid doing "actual" work.
"The grid resistor on the preamp stages typically ranges from 0 to 68K, although very large values, such as 470K, are sometimes used in high-gain preamps to shape the frequency response and prevent "blocking" distortion in the preamp section under heavy overdrive conditions. Perhaps the most important grid resistor is the one that goes to the grid of the very first stage, right after the input jack. This resistor is the one that prevents oscillations and pickup of radio stations and other noise due to long or poorly-shielded cables. Ideally, it should be soldered directly to the grid pins of the socket, with very short leads."

Yeah the reverb gets to be a little much with tons of gain. I'm waiting for some 180k resistors to get here from mouser along with some other small parts so i can finish up and add that pad.
Ange suggested Saratov El84 tubes I believe. Any one else have good experiences with them?
