Remember that you have the wiring for V2a and V2b backwards from what I am seeing. Your cathode follower is v2b and your reverb recovery tube is v2a.

You need to change that 100 ohm resistor to something else first. You could use two 33k in series for 66k or you could go with the 100k. Since the layout calls for a 68k you may want to go with the 66k first.

Do that first. I'm running through your wiring against the layout and checking it now.

Thanks!! I will get that in there now and see what happens to the voltage.

I don't see anything wrong with the wiring but wonder about the B+5 underboard wiring.

GUESS WHO'S ROCKET JUST FIRED UP!!!!?!??!?!??!?

Wooo hooo!! The amp works and sound incredible!! What great breakup!!! Wow, I can't believe that one resistor was the entire thing....unreal.

THANKS TO EVERYONE!!! I have some tweaking to do, but this is an amazing moment for me. First build!!

well alright

Great that it was a simple fix, often is. On my Dlite I had the plate and cathode wires reversed on B1 and it howled.

Congrats a super build. One resistor off for your first build is tremendous. How about that rocket tone.

Mark, yes I did create that extra node for the reverb.

Cheers Ange

Congrats. The wiring is crazy nice for your first amp.

I'm looking at building a Rocket with Reverb in the near future so I'll make sure not to make the mistake with the cathode resistor.

Ange,
You were by far my biggest asset through the entire build. Many thanks to you!!

The tone is awesome and the reverb is HUGE. I am not getting near the volume I should be out of the amp but it's sounds awesome through a 4x12 filled with blackbacks i have in the basement. I'm sure there is another easy fix for that too.

shoulders

Post by angelodp »

Truth is I am on the shoulders of giants. I was passing along all the great info from Normster, Mark, Colossus, Rawnster, RJ, MartinM, more many more.

TAG rules.

Crank that baby.

PS what about new voltage with that adjusted resistor. You say low volume?? This beast is loud.

new voltage

Post by amplifiednation »

Here's my new voltage chart.

I'm a little low on some of the B+ readings and a couple of the other readings don't match up perfectly. What a difference ONE resistor makes.

The amp sounds AWESOME. It's just not very loud. It seems like its only pushing out less than 10 watts.

I've got some SLIGHT hum too, but I haven't put in the shielded cable for the input so I'm thinking that might cut down on the hum a bit. I moved some wires around slightly and didn't hear any difference.

Any thoughts to the low volume??

Once that is fixed this build is complete!! Well at least for now...

low volume and hum

Post by angelodp »

Double check your output connections.

On the HUM, shielded on the input can help. You do know about florescent lights, dimmers etc, they are hum inducing critters.

Yeah my basement jam room is FULL of fluorescents. Turning them off helped, but it was still there. I'll try reflowing the output joints. I installed the switch upside down so I'll probably re do it anyway.

Forget the volume issue!! Switched to my 8ohm tap and that puppy is monstrously loud!! I guess the 16ohm tap must be a bad joint.

Thanks again everyone...sorry for blowing up your email tonight with notifications. I'm not going to be able to sleep I'm so excited.

Great job of keeping at it Taylor.

The reverb can cause a slight hum as well.

Taylor, congrats and sweet looking wiring. Hey and thanks for the future because I just ordered up some EL84s, 12ax7s, sockets etc to start my own rocket with verb. Your thread and all the great help from the others here will be very useful for me. Upload some more pics if you have 'em!
