Since you've had your hands in that many tube amps I'm surprised you haven't realized that even exact models don't always sound alike. Secondly no one amplifier's tone suits everyone and in fact, I've seldom seem any amp that could please everyone in a single tiny room with a hand full of players. Tone is such and individual thing that cloning anything down to the value of each component is a complete waste of time when seeking an everyone loves it holy grail.

couldn't agree more no one amp is the only amp or I wouldn't need to store, maintain, and insure 200+ amps. still the most used is the fender twin reverb for studio. correct every amp has it's own sound but within models and brands share a common voice. if you wanted to better voice a wreck to KF's ears run a good one with tone threw a frequency analyzer like smarrt live then hookup the clone and match it to the screen shot. there are ways to closely voice the amps. this would be a way you wouldn't need to unsolder most if any parts.

I hear people saying things like this over and over again.

Guitar amplifiers are not LTI systems!!!!

Traditional circuit analysis techniques are worthless! Impulse/frequency response tells you NOTHING!!!

If you have all the answers, then why are you wasting your time here?

You make it all seem so simple...

BTW, if the Twin is the most used, why DO you store, maintain, and insure 200+ amps?

So you reverse one Express and the 100k plates are 104k...then you reverse another and they're all 98k. Which is correct? It would be like a dog chasing it's own tail...an exercise in futility.
It's all math and science.
Wrong...there's a lot of 'art' to it too imo. And this is imo what gets lost in all the cloning and measuring every part to see exactly what he used. Did KF go measure somebody else's amp to find out what value they used so he could put that exact same value in his amp? No...he listened...hard...and CHOSE the value himself. He was the artist and this is one of the things I find so appealing about this craft. Cloning not so much.

I also think that we go a little overboard on why KF did what he did. It's like we measure a 100k resistor 20 years later and it's actually 104k and we all think he deliberately/intentionally chose that resistor instead of the 102.5k one? Mmmkkkkaaaaaayyyyy.
if you wanted to better voice a wreck to KF's ears run a good one with tone threw a frequency analyzer like smarrt live then hookup the clone and match it to the screen shot
Better yet use the transducers on the side of your head and the frequency analyzer between those two transducers. :D
