By the way on my original Express the bright switch is in the full bright (500pf) position when the switch is down, and the less bright (50pf in my amp) when the switch is up. My Liverpool was the same way.
It seems most clones are built the other way. The Francesa pics are a little confusing on this, as the chassis is upside down. That said, Francesca is the same. "Down" is full bright...

By the way, you are 100% correct with respect to the bright switch - just checked the other one I'm building and I guess I DO have mine wired backwards with respect to the original layout .... It's less bright when it's in the "up" position ....the devil indeed is in the details.
