That all my be true... They can accept and release energy very fast... It's conceivable this makes a different in the sound...

I once bypassed all my electrolytic caps in an 18W build and the result was a very harsh, bright amp. Took all those bypass caps out and it returned to normal. Have never tried anything like that again...

Nothing "audiophoolish" about low ESR. Whether you like the sound or not may be another story.

I know someone who built an amp using Solen Fast Caps. Because of the low ESR he got better hum rejection. Because of the lower hum he used smaller value filter caps. Because he used smaller value caps, the amp was more "responsive". Something to think about anyway.

Thanks Doug. Thats the kind of insight I was fishing for, and it seems to jibe with my memory of a discussion on Amperage as well - that one could use lower uF value filter caps and get a better hum rejection as well as a quicker response.

I'll play around with them at some point; I have some high value big ones coming (80uF) and will look into some lower (10-20 uF) ones. I've been considering a uber bass amp ala SVT or Marshall Major, and that might be the place to try them.

FWIW, I think R.G. Keen mentioned one time that he thought oil-filled motor start caps would make really good power supply caps- if you can handle the weight. I can get them surplus from a local place for about $4-$5 a piece. I've toyed with the idea a few times. But that would require a much larger chassis than I usually use and a lot more weight. I've already wrenched my back once carting a combo amp up a flight of stairs. I'm happy that my tube heads are much lighter. It's tempting though...

BIN is only $7500, funny it didn't sell right off. I sold my last TW based amp for $359.

I'm definitely not doing many things right.

Hell, I would have bought that for that price and given it to my dad! I'm sorry I missed it.

Yeah, that's what I thought, but I tried selling a near identical amp listing it
3 times and couldn't sell it at slightly over $400. I finally sold it in a new hand built tolexed cabinet for $489. Those were my first and second TW based exprss style amps. I have gone very shy from building any more since those unfortunate experiences. Perhaps eBay isn't the place to sell "no name" amps like mine.

ebay is like that, some days or weeks you can't sell something.. the next week relisted, bam, it sells ,and people are fighting over it in bid wars.
This can be for plexi marshalls to about anything.
