Tim, I use adhesive to mount that cap. More to stop any rattles that may develop.

Re: Preamp Grounding
I don't really have a problem with mounting the cap like that. We mount screen grid resistors right on the socket, supported only by their own leads and that is in a much more 'high voltage area' than that Presence cap. There also could be a dab of glue behind that Presence cap that we can't see.
Looks sort of like a mint leaf to me but it's still green so it looks fresh. I don't really associate Trainwreck tone with 'minty fresh'. TW tone 'smells' more like...good barbeque to me.

Looks like a pinched bit of clay - maybe to hold a lead in place on the chassis?

I actually agree with Germ that a solderjoint should not be the only way to keep things together. Imagine a cold solderjoint that is not visible at first glance.... I like to bend the lead around a component too before I solder it.

Well, I was raised by an old navy radar technician who always said "Make a good mechanical connection first, and then put on the solder." Been doing that ever since.jelle wrote:I like to bend the lead around a component too before I solder it.

After perusing my Textbook of Chinese Herbal Medicine, I believe that is a leaf from the famed genus Sirius species magnifitona variety fischerii. It has been used for thousands, yes, thousands of years by practitioners of traditional Chinese medicine to enhance the sound of tube amplifiersJimy wrote: is that a LEAF?
