I've never seen that done before! See how you get on with it. Might work. Just watch for burn marks on that board! Once the amp is up and running, play it for a bit then feel around the board to see if the board is dissipating a lot of heat.

I know it's a bit late for it now, but it might have been worth drilling a couple holes in the board where the heat sink was mounted for a touch more ventilation.

Nice looking build.

Will VVR be a part of this build, these amp are quite loud and bright?

This is probably the factor which stops me jumping in on a build, how to do it right using the regular caps.

The norm seems to be can caps, but I don't want to go down that path as I already have the caps I'll use.

That heat sink is looking super nice, Dave. I think that's a great idea. Too, I know Glen has said that his resistor (traditional ceramic coated block type) gets really warm in his amps. I don't experience this so I wouldn't be surprised if it had performed perfectly the way you originally had it.

But you've moved well past this potential stumbling block at this point, carry on...

Mark, what you mean by VVR... is it about the tube ?

Ross, thanks !

I do believe that heat sink will add more potential to the Resistor

Hi Dave

Here is one of the VVR threads.

https://tubeamparchive.com/viewtopic.ph ... hlight=vvr

Most people have the VVR pot on the front of the amp. I would prefer to keep the look of the amp the same and have either the presence or the VVR pot on the back of the amp.

If I were to also include a resonance pot then having the presence and resonance pot on the back of the amp would make sense.

I hope this is of some assistance.

There is this too by Martin Manning.

Hi Dave

I've heard the amp in person and it sounded the same but quieter which I liked. This is what I can find on the VVR on You Tube.

There can be an issue with the guitars volume pot being scratchy if the voltage gets too low, but that isn't a big deal in the scheme of things, and a capacitor fixes that.

Had you given thought to a resonance control?

Barry Marie's (Barwatt amps) has his amp tricked out with this sort of thing and I hope to hear it sometime this year. Unfortunately this will come too late to assist you with your build. I have only heard an amp he built for a guy with VVR.
Yours Sincerely

8) Looks great, Dave! Is this an RJ chassis? Thick as a brick me thinks, nice. The polystyrene treble cap I'm not sure on but you can always swap it out. Somehow mica sounds better in a guitar amp to my ear. Fire that thing up!

Looks good and I believe that is a Watts chassis you drilled out right?

I like polystyrene caps, plus they can be orientated for lower noise, pulled all the mica's out of a high gain amp I built and replaced them with polystyrene caps and the amp was much quieter and sounded sweet.

Nice looking built Dave
